Investment Approach
Travant believes that the best way to address the unbounded opportunity that Africa represents is through investments in well structured professional companies equipped with the skills and resources needed to adequately address the market. As such, Travant does not restrict its investments to a particular geography or sector, but instead focuses on identifying quality companies which can adequately and rigorously seize the opportunity.
Active Partners
We believe the best way to realize value from our investments is through active collaboration with the company's management. In addition to a presence on the sponsor company's board, our internal consulting practice helps companies to improve systems and processes, to recruit top people, and to facilitate business development through introduction to strategic partners and customers. Our capital helps sponsor companies to grow and our active nurturing helps them to excel.
Local Presence
With offices in Lagos, Nigeria we are never more than a few hours from anywhere in our region. In addition, our multilingual professionals were born in or have lived in six African countries. We believe this presence in our investment region gives us better access to investment opportunity and better enables us to add value to our portfolio companies.
Growth Capital
Travant invests across sectors with a primary focus on Financial Services, Telecoms/IT, Energy, Mining Services, Agribusiness, Logistics and Transportation and Consumer Goods. We will invest outside of our focus sectors on a case by case basis.
Our focus is to provide growth capital to firms seeking to build upon an existing platform to reach a wider market or to expand existing operations. Investments in early stage and more mature opportunities are made on select bases.
Investment Size and Exit
Travant will explore opportunities in the US$10m to US$200m range, although our ideal investment size is between $25m and $35m. For larger opportunities, Travant will leverage its relationships with our investors and other players on a co-investment basis.
We have a duty to generate superior returns for our investors. As such we will typically look to profitably exit our investment, through trade sale, public listing or leveraged recapitalization within 3-5 years of the initial investment. We feel that this long term investment horizon and returns orientation best aligns us with our portfolio firms, for whom their success is our success.

We recognize the speed imperative existing in the market for sponsor companies. We have an efficient but robust investment process that enables us to conclude a transaction within a limited time frame without compromising the thorough analysis and due diligence required to ensure the integrity of our investments.
